Credit Freeze

Upon suspicion of compromised personal data, you can activate the Credit Freeze service to restrict third parties from assessing your credit report

Upon suspicion of compromised personal data, you can activate the Credit Freeze service to restrict third parties from assessing your credit report. Once activated, credit providers or financial institutions participating in Credit Data Smart (CDS) will not be able to access your credit report for new loan or credit card applications. This also means they’re unable to process related approvals. However, Credit Freeze will not affect the use of your existing credit, including reviewing and adjusting credit limits or updating credit data.

How do I activate or deactivate Credit Freeze?

You can activate Credit Freeze via the TransUnion HK mobile app or in person at the Customer Service Centre.

Step 1

Visit TransUnion Customer Service Centre

Make a reservation here and bring along the following documents:

  • Original, valid identity document (e.g., Hong Kong Identity Card or passport from other countries)
  • One original, valid proof of residential address issued within the last three months (e.g., demand note from the Rating and Valuation Department, water bill, electricity bill, gas bill or credit card statement).

TransUnion mobile app

1. If you’re not a TransUnion user, click here to download the TransUnion HK mobile app and create an account. If you’re an existing user, please log in to the TransUnion HK mobile app.

2. After logging in successfully, please click "Settings" then "Credit Freeze" to switch the status of Credit Freeze.

Step 2

Once your application has been processed, you’ll receive an email notification from TransUnion when Credit Freeze is activated. Credit Freeze will first take effect at the credit reference agency (CRA) with which you applied, then the results will be sent to other selected CRAs under Credit Data Smart for further processing — which will take about one working day. You can also set the end date of Credit Freeze, such as 3, 6, 9, 12 months or until upon your request.

Once Credit Freeze is activated, the credit providers or financial institutions that participate in Credit Data Smart will not be able to access your credit report for any new loan and credit card applications.

Step 3

During the credit freeze period, you can log in to the TransUnion HK mobile app anytime to switch the status of Credit Freeze.

When you’re ready to apply for new credit, you can log in to the TransUnion HK mobile app or visit the Customer Service Centre to deactivate Credit Freeze.

Step 4

Same as when applying for the Credit Freeze service, the credit reference agency processing your application will first deactivate your Credit Freeze. The update will then be sent other selected CRAs under Credit Data Smart for further processing — which will take about one working day. You’ll receive an email notification from TransUnion once the Credit Freeze is successfully deactivated by TransUnion.
