When you apply for a mortgage, car loan, tax loan, personal loan or credit card, financial institutions will request your credit report from TransUnion to help determine if you qualify for the loan. Since hard inquiry indicates your application for credit, it may hurt your credit score, while soft inquiry such as checking your own credit report doesn’t affect your credit score at all.
